Talawakelle Tea Estates Plc (TPL.N0000) appointed Nishantha Abeysinghe as Director/Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 August 2025. Abeysinghe, with 36 years in the plantation sector, was also named director of several Hayleys Group private companies including TTEL hydro power units.

Talawakelle Tea Estates (TPL.N0000) has appointed Anura Weerakoon as a Non-Executive Director. He brings 40 years of plantations experience, including prior roles at Kelani Valley Plantations and Malwatte Valley Plantations.

Talawakelle Tea Estates (TPL.N0000), Kelani Valley Plantations (KVAL.N0000) and Horana Plantations (HOPL.N0000) were among Sri Lankan winners at the Commonwealth Business Excellence Awards 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. The ceremony highlighted tea plantation, sustainability and export excellence for the awarded firms.

Darshana Gunasekera has been appointed an Independent, Non-Executive Director of Bank of Ceylon effective 13 August 2025. He is currently Group Finance Director of the MJF Group and serves on the boards of Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company, Kahawatte Plantations and Talawakelle Tea Estates.

Nishantha Abeysinghe has been appointed Executive Director/CEO of Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC. He succeeds Senaka Alawattegama, who has become Executive Director/CEO at Kelani Valley Plantations PLC.

Multiple plantation companies (Agarapatana, Elpitiya, Talawakelle, Hatton, Watawala, Kegalle, Kelani Valley, Maskeliya, Namunukula, Kahawatte and Balangoda) are running scholarship programs supporting hundreds of students; Elpitiya alone funds 100 university and 80 A/L students at a cost exceeding LKR 12.4m.

CFA Society Sri Lanka held the Capital Market Awards 2025 on 24 June; Sunshine Holdings won Gold for Best Investor Relations (Mid-to-Large), hSenid Business Solutions won Best Investor Relations (Small Cap), Talawakelle Tea Estates won Silver for Best Sustainability Reporting, and Dialog Axiata and Commercial Bank shared Bronze. Capital Alliance was a Gold sponsor and Hatton National Bank served as Banking Partner.

CFA Society Sri Lanka held the 12th Capital Market Awards on 24 June, with Sunshine Holdings winning Gold for Best Investor Relations (Mid-to-Large Cap). hSenid won Gold for Best Investor Relations (Small Cap); Hemas won Silver (Mid-to-Large), Talawakelle Tea Estates won Silver for Best Sustainability Reporting, and Dialog and Commercial Bank shared Bronze for Sustainability.

Hayleys Plantations' companies Kelani Valley Plantations (KVAL.N0000), Talawakelle Tea Estates (TPL.N0000) and Horana Plantations (HOPL.N0000) have established wildlife corridors and conservation programmes to protect Sri Lankan leopards, including KVPL's Elbedda Ridge Corridor (40+ leopards identified) and HPL's 18km Peak-Ridge Corridor.

Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC was named one of the 15 Best Workplaces in the Manufacturing and Production Industry for 2025 at a Great Place to Work Sri Lanka event that explored emerging manufacturing trends.

Hayleys PLC opened the new Kiruwanaganga Tea Factory (managed by Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC) after a LKR 780 million investment; the facility has 14,000 kg/day capacity, is ranked No.1 Low-grown by CTTA and holds multiple sustainability certifications.

Hayleys Plantations inaugurated the Kiruwanaganga Tea Factory in Kirillapone, Matara, a Rs.780 million facility with 14,000 kg/day capacity managed by Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC. The factory features solar rooftop, advanced processing equipment and multiple sustainability certifications.

Teejay Lanka, Dilmah Ceylon Tea, Kelani Valley Plantations and Talawakelle Tea Estates were appointed Patrons of UN Global Compact Network Sri Lanka Working Groups from 2025, with MoUs signed on 20 March 2025; roles cover sustainable supply chains, water stewardship and climate action.

Hayleys Plantations (Hayleys PLC) hosted its 3rd Best Tea Harvester Competition, where Anthony Iresha Rajaletchumi of Talawakelle harvested 6.2 kg in 15 minutes to win Rs. 500,000. Winners from Kelani Valley, Talawakelle and Horana estates received cash prizes and Singer Sri Lanka-sponsored goods.

Talawakelle Tea Estates Plc's Somerset Estate (Nanu Oya) fetched a record Rs. 3,050 per kg for a BOP Western High Grown tea lot at the weekly online auctions on 10-11 March. This surpasses its 2022 record of Rs. 2,600/kg; the lot was bought by Tea Tang Ltd. and marketed by Forbes & Walker.

ACCA Sustainability Reporting Awards 2024 named Hayleys PLC overall winner and Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC overall runner-up. Listed firms recognised in sector categories included Talawakelle Tea Estates, Horana Plantations, Ceylon Cold Stores, Commercial Bank, Sampath Bank, Citizens Development Business Finance, Resus Energy, Hayleys Fabric, Haycarb, Diesel & Motor Engineering, JAT Holdings and Aitken Spence Hotels.

Talawakelle Tea Estates' Great Western Estate fetched a record Rs. 2,900/kg for Dust1 at the 23 December 2024 sale, bought by M/s Heritage Teas Ltd. The estate is managed by Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC, a subsidiary of Hayleys PLC.

Aitken Spence won the Ceylon Chamber Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2024. Shortlist firms recognised included Talawakelle Tea Estates (Category B winner), Sampath Bank (runner-up and finance sector champion) and other shortlist companies such as Dilmah, Haycarb, Kelani Valley, Elpitiya, Jetwing Symphony, Hemas, Singer and Ceylon Tobacco.

CA Sri Lanka hosted the SAFA Best Presented Annual Report Awards 2023 in Colombo, where Sri Lankan firms won 24 awards. Several listed companies — including Commercial Bank, Hayleys, Haycarb, Royal Ceramics, Access Engineering, Kelani Valley, Talawakelle, DIMO, Sri Lanka Telecom, Ceylon Tea Brokers, NDB and L B Finance — received awards or merit recognitions.

UN Global Compact Network Sri Lanka and UNDP held a Science-Based Targets initiative workshop urging corporates to set validated SBTs to reduce emissions and strengthen resilience; Teejay Lanka and Talawakelle Tea presented local case studies and Hayleys representatives shared experiences to boost corporate decarbonisation and reporting.

Hisham Jamaldeen resigned from the boards of Hayleys PLC, Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC, Haycarb PLC and Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC, with the resignation effective November 14, the companies said in stock exchange filings.

Horana Plantations PLC (HOPL.N0000) became the first Sri Lankan company to develop an EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)-compliant management system, third-party verified by Preferred by Nature. The certification and HPL's knowledge-sharing aim to improve EU market access and industry preparedness.
