Ceylon Grain Elevators posted revenue up 22% to Rs 7.3bn and net profit of Rs 936mn (EPS 15.60), driven by stronger broiler day-old chick and processed chicken sales from its Three Acre Farms unit.
Bairaha Farms PLC (BFL.N0000) marks its 50th anniversary, cites domestic growth and export progress with exports to the Maldives and conditional clearance for Singapore, and reports 2024 sector figures (chicken +10% to 258,540 mt; day-old chicks +13% to ~188m). The piece also flags challenges from reliance on imported feed (maize/soy) and high import levies that affect competitiveness.
Colombo Stock Exchange closed higher as the ASPI rose 0.33% to 23,659.70, led by capital goods and banks with turnover of Rs1.85bn and Rs1.58bn. Top contributors included John Keells, Senkadagala Finance and Aitken Spence, and Three Acre Farms said it will merge two subsidiaries.
Bairaha Farms said poultry prices rose in Q3 2025 and it posted a net profit of Rs 427m for the quarter versus a Rs 109m loss a year earlier; its feed milling unit saw reduced profitability due to high-priced, low-quality local maize that cut broiler weights and tightened supply.
Three Acre Farms (TAFL) reported a 27% fall in revenues to Rs 1,231 million in the June 2025 quarter as farmers cut purchases of day‑old chicks and the company lowered chick prices. The report cites volatile egg/broiler prices, high maize import duties and central bank policy shifts weighing on the sector.
Indrajit Wickramasinghe has been appointed an Independent Non-Executive Director of Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO.N0000). He is an ex-CEO of Union Bank with over 36 years' management experience and currently sits on the boards of Three Acre Farms, Ceylon Grain Elevators and Overseas Realty.
Colombo market rebounded as the ASPI gained 129 points (0.7%) on fresh buying, with turnover of Rs.5.98bn. Banking and construction led gains — HNB, Central Finance, R I L Property and Melstacorp were among top contributors while foreign investors were net sellers of Rs.84.4m.
Colombo market fell as ASPI declined 0.58% (around 106 points) and S&P SL20 down 0.5% on low turnover of Rs.2.4bn; major drags included Melstacorp, Colombo Dockyard, Commercial Bank, Aitken Spence and NDB, while turnover was led by Sampath, John Keells and Vallibel Finance.
Three Acre Farms (TAFL) said its profits fell as chicken and egg prices declined over the past year despite improved broiler-farm efficiency. Parent Ceylon Grain Elevators (GRAN) cut feed prices, reported higher domestic maize costs/quality issues and spent Rs 270 million to retrofit an ammonia refrigeration system.
Ceylon Grain Elevators (GRAN.N0000) coordinated a chartered bulk maize vessel to cut feed procurement and shipping costs amid high Sri Lankan maize import taxes (25 rupee/kg), aiming to lower input costs for poultry producers.
Ceylon Grain Elevators (GRAN.N0000) said maize import licensing and high duties are blocking poultry export opportunities and causing feed shortages, with locally grown maize meeting less than 50% of industry needs. The firm warned delayed permits and low-quality local maize raise costs and aflatoxin risks.
Ceylon Grain Elevators said per capita chicken availability rose to 11.3 kg in 2024 (from 10.6 kg) and eggs to 99 per year (from 86), and it cut feed prices (broiler -22%, layer -20%, cattle -10%) supported by rupee appreciation. The company said margins were compressed and it absorbed a 3% VAT rise; import controls on maize and past egg price controls have hit the layer sector.
Three Acre Farms reported revenues fell 58% year‑on‑year to 1.3 billion rupees in the December 2024 quarter as demand for day‑old chicks slumped amid falling chicken and egg prices. Parent Ceylon Grain Elevators saw group revenues rise 56% to 7.05 billion rupees as feed demand increased, with costs also higher.
