Bank-led rally lifted the ASPI 0.66% as the banking sector drove 63% of turnover with top contributors including Sampath Bank, Hatton National Bank, Richard Pieris, Dipped Products and DFCC. Turnover was Rs.3.6bn and there was a net foreign outflow of Rs.119.7m.
Softlogic Stockbrokers says tourist arrivals are recovering but visa processing delays have cut the 2024 target from 2.3m to 2.0m, and Sri Lanka recorded 55,353 tourists between 1–13 Oct. Growth moderated since mid-2024 and upcoming elections could dampen November arrivals.
Colombo market turnover topped Rs. 4 billion as the ASPI closed up 12 points at 11,672, marking an eighth consecutive day of gains. Banking stocks drove activity—contributing 39% of turnover with HNB, Sampath, NDB, Teejay Lanka and DFCC among top positive contributors, while Commercial Bank fell.
