Colombo market closed the week higher as ASPI and S&P SL20 rose about 2% (ASPI 16,937, +358 pts) with turnover Rs.5 billion, led by banks, capital goods and food & beverage stocks ahead of the 2025 Budget.
Sri Lanka's ASPI closed up 2.18% (362.03 pts) at 16,940.25, led by gains in diversified counters and bank stocks; the S&P SL20 rose 1.88% to 5,037.52, turnover was 4.8 billion rupees and net foreign outflow was 513 million rupees.
Sri Lanka stocks fell, with the ASPI down 1.01% to 16,566.27 as investors awaited next week's government budget; turnover was low at Rs 2.07 billion and net foreign outflows totalled Rs 35.5 million, with financials and capital goods weighing on the market.
RIL Property PLC appointed Sujeewa Mudalige and Nanda Fernando as Independent Non-Executive Directors to its board. Mudalige is the former CEO/Managing Partner of PwC Sri Lanka; Fernando is the ex-CEO of Sampath Bank and serves on boards including Haycarb, Hayleys Fabric, Dipped Products and Hatton National Bank.
Sri Lanka's ASPI fell 0.64% to 16,917.86 in a market correction as SL20 dropped 1.23% and turnover was Rs 7.4bn. Banks led the pullback (HNB -4.0%, NDB -1.34%, DFCC -1.5%, Seylan -0.5%) while Browns Investments, Sierra Cables, John Keells and RIL were among the most active stocks.
The ASPI fell 143 points (0.9%) to 15,811 and the S&P SL20 lost 1.2%; turnover was Rs.4.13bn with a net foreign outflow of Rs.38m. Selling in banking counters (Sampath, Commercial Bank, DFCC) weighed on the market while John Keells, Browns and LB Finance saw heavy turnover and small price moves.
Colombo Stock Exchange ASPI rose 0.30% to 13,228 on turnover of Rs2.3bn, led by retail buying in food, beverage & tobacco and renewed interest in construction. Notable movers included gains in Lion Brewery, Ceylon Cold Stores, Distilleries, Access Engineering and Central Finance, while Sierra Cables fell; net foreign outflow was Rs379mn.
The Colombo stock market edged up as the ASPI rose 8 points (0.06%) and the S&P SL20 gained 5 points (0.13%) on turnover of Rs.2.7 billion. John Keells, Commercial Bank, Lion Brewery, R.I.L. Property and food & beverage counters were among top contributors while foreign investors were net sellers of Rs.366 million.
RIL Property PLC appointed Arjuna Herath as its new Chairman, succeeding Sunil G. Wijesinha. Herath joined the board on 1 July 2024 and is a former EY senior partner and past president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.
