The ASPI fell 120 points (0.75%) to 15,842 as investors reacted to the ruling NPP's weaker-than-expected LG poll showing, with turnover of Rs. 3.2bn. Major drags included JKH, CINS, COMB, SPEN and SAMP while Food, Beverage & Tobacco led turnover (61%).
The CSE opened May on a mixed note as turnover hit a new high of Rs. 6 billion while the ASPI rose 52 points to 15,852; crossings in CT Holdings and Cargills dominated activity, together accounting for the bulk of turnover. Banking and food retail stocks, including Pan Asia Banking and Lankem, were also among top contributors.
Colombo market ended a four-day winning streak as the ASPI fell 0.4% (67 points) to 15,800 and the S&P SL20 dropped 0.6%. Turnover was Rs.2.37bn; banking, diversified financials and Food & Beverage led declines, and foreign investors were net sellers of Rs.90.6m.
Colombo market stayed bearish as the ASPI fell 43 points (0.28%) and the S&P SL20 dipped 0.68% on turnover of Rs.991.4m, with foreign net selling of Rs.63.4m. Banking names (COMB, HNB, NDB) and JKH weighed on the index while pockets of interest were seen in CINS, ASIR and COCR and retail interest in PAP, LVEF and LOFC.
Sri Lanka's ASPI closed marginally up 0.18% at 15,421.54 as buying returned after a three-day slide, led by gains in Commercial Bank, HNB, Melstacorp, NDB and Sampath; turnover fell to 1.25 billion rupees and net foreign inflow was 14 million rupees.
Colombo market sustained gains with the ASPI up 0.4% and S&P SL20 up 0.2% on Rs.5 billion turnover and a net foreign inflow of Rs.194.5 million. Top contributors included Commercial Bank, Tokyo Cement, Lanka IOC, ACL Cables and Access Engineering, with banking leading turnover (26%).
Colombo market opened higher as the ASPI rose 0.30% to 13,229 and the S&P SL20 gained 0.12% on turnover of Rs. 2.3bn; top contributors included HAYL, SPEN, AEL, JKH and CFIN, with Lion Brewery closing up at Rs. 1,114.75.
Colombo market showed a muted response to the NPP landslide, with the ASPI up 0.2% and the S&P SL20 up 0.08% on turnover of Rs.5.5bn; the banking sector led turnover while foreign investors were net sellers of Rs.761.2m.
Panasian Power PLC said its group subsidiaries have entered Power Purchase Agreements for five 5MW ground-mounted solar PV projects in Galle, Anuradhapura, Ampara, Maho and Matara effective 15 August.
