Colombo market closed mixed — ASPI +4 points, S&P SL20 -11 on turnover of Rs.3.7bn — as investors reacted to an electricity tariff hike with increased selling pressure; Diversified Financials led turnover and foreign investors were net buyers of Rs.8.7m.
ASPI rose 0.9% to lift its YTD return to 10.74% as turnover reached Rs.5.68 billion led by LVEF (Rs.500m), RCL (Rs.304m) and TILE (Rs.269m), with banking and capital‑goods/construction counters among the session’s key drivers.
The ASPI gained 72 points (+0.5%) to 15,616 as the Colombo market bounced back, led by the capital goods sector. Turnover was about Rs.1.5 billion with net foreign inflows of Rs.35.2m; notable movers included Hemas, John Keells, Browns, Alumex and DFCC.
Colombo bourse ended the week higher (ASPI +2.1% for the week; ASPI +0.26 yesterday, S&P SL20 +0.28) with turnover yesterday at Rs.5.4bn and a net foreign outflow of Rs.221.5m. Banking and capital-goods/construction stocks led turnover, with top contributors including Dialog, DFCC, Dipped Products, Hemas and Commercial Bank.
Colombo Stock Exchange ended 2024 higher, with the ASPI up 0.74% at 15,944.61 and the S&P SL20 up 1.01% at 4,862.10. Turnover was Rs7.7bn, banks/diversified financials and capital goods drew the most interest, and there was a net foreign inflow of Rs129mn.
ASPI rose 0.6% to 12,875 (a multi-week high) as banking and blue-chip stocks led gains; turnover was Rs.2.4bn and foreign investors were net sellers of Rs.23.3m.
Alumex PLC inaugurated its 'Ascend' state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on 26 September 2024, adding Aluminium High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) and a dedicated balcony assembly line.
