Colombo market fell for a second day as the ASPI dropped 1.2% to 16,859 (≈215 pts) with turnover of Rs.2.9bn and a Rs.381mn foreign outflow; the Banking sector led the decline with HNB, Sampath Bank and NDB among the top negative contributors.
Colombo Stock Exchange fell 0.9% as the ASPI dropped 0.86% to 16,927.13 amid profit-taking—especially in banks—and a net foreign outflow of Rs 380mn. DFCC reported an 80% rise in December-quarter profits and Sampath an 85% increase.

Colombo market closed the week higher as ASPI and S&P SL20 rose about 2% (ASPI 16,937, +358 pts) with turnover Rs.5 billion, led by banks, capital goods and food & beverage stocks ahead of the 2025 Budget.

Colombo stock market extended its bull run as the ASPI rose about 4% for the week (closing at 14,205) on high turnover (avg Rs.5.66bn), led by heavy trading and price gains in Hemas, HNB, Lanka Milk Foods, John Keells and Alumex.

Ceylinco Holdings (CINS.N0000) appointed Ranil Goonetilleke and Chrishan Fernando as Independent Non-Executive Directors effective 1 January 2025. Goonetilleke is a finance veteran and current NED at Lion Brewery, Pegasus Hotels and Namunukula Plantations; Fernando is a seasoned IT industry leader.
The Colombo market ended the post-election week with ASPI down 1.1% for the week (S&P SL20 down 2.7%) but closed yesterday up 0.56% on below-average turnover of Rs.1.9bn. Banking stocks led turnover (Seylan, Pan Asia, Sampath, HNB) while BREW, COMB, CINS, SEYB and DIPD were top positive contributors and JKH dipped.
Colombo Stock Exchange rose as the ASPI gained 0.56% (72.17 pts) to 13,054, led by bank activity which accounted for Rs736mn of turnover. Investors cited profit-taking after bank gains linked to ISB debt-restructure reports and Fitch noted banks' profiles would improve after a successful sovereign restructure.
