Colombo Stock Market opened 2025 strongly as the ASPI rose 2.5% (404 pts) to top 16,000 on Rs.12.8bn turnover and net foreign inflow of Rs.88.6m, led by blue-chips and banking names such as JKH, Browns Investments, Aitken Spence, Sampath Bank and Hemas.
Colombo market notched a 21st consecutive gain as the ASPI rose 1% (148 pts) to 15,168 on turnover of Rs.5.5bn, led by banking-sector activity; top contributors and heavy turnover included Hayleys, Central Finance, C T Holdings, Sampath, Richard Pieris, Commercial Bank, Royal Ceramics and Browns Investments.
Colombo Stock Exchange closed higher: ASPI up 0.98% (147.79 pts) to 15,168 and S&P SL20 up 0.82% to 4,535 on turnover of 5.4 billion rupees. Top contributors included Hayleys, Central Finance, C T Holdings and Sampath Bank, with a net foreign outflow of 94 million rupees.
Colombo Stock Exchange extended gains for a 10th day, led by heavy turnover and price rises in Asia Asset Finance (up Rs.4 to Rs.21), Hayleys (up Rs.6.25 to Rs.115.25) and Ambeon Capital (up Rs.3.40 to Rs.22.90).
Colombo Stock Exchange ASPI rose 0.77% (105.38 pts) to 13,718 as turnover reached Rs4.4bn. Major contributors were diversified financials, capital goods and food/beverage/tobacco, with heavy volumes and gains in Asia Asset Finance, Ambeon Capital, Hayleys, Central Finance, Lanka IOC and others; Sampath Bank fell and net foreign inflow was Rs47mn.
Colombo bourse rose with the ASPI up 0.9% (115 pts) and turnover jumping to Rs.5.1bn, boosted by crossings and heavy banking-sector activity. Top contributors included Sampath Bank, Commercial Bank, John Keells, Hemas and NDB, with a net foreign outflow of Rs.246.3m.
Colombo bourse rebounded as the S&P SL20 rose 1.3% and the ASPI gained 0.7% on Rs.1.1bn turnover. Banking led turnover (34%) with Sampath and Commercial Bank among top contributors, capital goods and retail sectors were active, and net foreign outflow was Rs.134m.
Colombo market slipped on profit-taking: ASPI fell 0.95% (126 pts) and S&P SL20 fell 1.6% on turnover of Rs.6bn. John Keells, Hatton National and Sampath were major decliners while SERV and MARA saw investor interest; foreigners were net sellers of Rs.772.5m.
Colombo market extended its pre-election rally as the ASPI gained 136 pts to 13,125 and the S&P SL20 neared 4,000 on turnover of Rs.7bn. Banking stocks led the advance (Sampath, DFCC, NDB, NTB, JKH, LOLC, MELS, CTHR among contributors) and several firms (ASIY, GRAN, TAFL, GLAS) announced interim dividends.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake's 21 Sept. presidential win propelled the Colombo bourse—ASPI rose ~10% and S&P SL20 ~13% since the victory, returning indices to double-digit YTD gains. Turnover jumped to Rs.2.6bn with banks and capital goods leading; JKH, COMB, NDB, CFIN, SAMP and HNB were key positives while UML, MARA and BERU fell.
Colombo market edged up as S&P SL20 rose 0.3% and ASPI closed at 11,312, with turnover just Rs. 337.4m (down 60.3% vs the month’s average). Commercial Bank, Melstacorp, NDB and Tokyo Cement were top contributors amid mixed activity across banking, capital goods and tourism stocks.
