Sri Lanka's tea production fell 8.5% year-on-year in April 2026 to 24.22 Mn/Kgs, with Low Grown output down 14.4%. January–April cumulative output dropped 5.3% to 83.94 Mn/Kgs, and Asia Siyaka Commodities cited dry weather and reduced fertiliser use by smallholders.
Asia Siyaka Commodities said March tea exports fell 16% YoY to 19.7 Mnkg, leaving 1Q exports down 4.5% to 60.3 Mnkg. Rupee earnings held at Rs.109 billion due to currency depreciation, but dollar earnings fell 5% to $351m amid higher freight/insurance and Gulf shipping disruptions.
Tea production fell to 20.8 Mn kgs in March, down 14.5% YoY from 24.4 Mn kgs, hit by prolonged dry and hot weather; first-quarter output also slipped to 59.6 Mn kgs from 61.7 Mn kgs a year earlier.
Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC appointed Executive Director Chamara Dissanayake as CEO effective 1 April 2026 and named Shashike Silva and Kirk Wijesekera as Executive Directors. Dissanayake is currently SVP and Group COO and has experience advising the tea value chain, including as a consultant to the Asian Development Bank.
Colombo stocks closed in red, with the ASPI down 0.39% (92.40 pts) to 23,690.62 and the S&P SL20 down 0.71% to 6,681.12 on turnover of nearly Rs.3.7bn. Price losses in John Keells, Melstacorp and Nations Trust Bank were key negatives while ACL Cables, Access Engineering and Dialog were top turnover names.
Asia Siyaka Warehousing, a fully owned subsidiary of Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC (ASIY.N0000), became the world’s first tea logistics company to receive ZeroCarbon® certification. Its Muthurajawela warehouse also holds LEED and ISO 22000 certifications and can store up to 11 million kg of tea (29,000 pallet positions).
Colombo stock market ended the week up as the ASPI rose 0.14% to 23,801.96 while year-to-date net foreign selling approached Rs. 11.8 billion. Turnover was nearly Rs. 9.1 billion, led by banks and large crossings (notably Commercial Bank) with gains in ACME, JKH, Sampath, HNB, KZOO, Colombo Dockyard and Teejay.
ASPI ended marginally up at 23,960.16 (+0.03%) on turnover of over Rs.5.2bn. Capital goods led turnover (31%) driven by Colombo Dockyard and John Keells, while diversified financials and banks contributed 21% and foreign investors were net sellers of Rs.128.2m.

CA Sri Lanka's Budget Seminar analysed the 2026 Budget, highlighting abolition of SVAT, introduction of e-invoicing and lowering the VAT/SSCL registration threshold from Rs.60m to Rs.36m — measures that may cause cash-flow pressure for exporters. The IRD said two special export refund units will expedite refunds within 45 days and low/medium-risk taxpayers will get refunds without pre-verification.
Colombo stocks rose for a second session as the ASPI gained 0.76% (156.05 pts) to 20,775.42 on turnover of Rs. 6.61bn, with foreigners net selling Rs. 580m. Commercial Bank, Hemas and Melstacorp were top positive contributors while Alumex posted a strong gain and Sierra Cables declined.

Asia Siyaka reports June tea output fell 6.3% YoY to 21.69 Mnkg, but cumulative Jan–Jun production rose 6.1% YoY to 135.74 Mnkg, driven by gains in Low, High and Medium Growns and early July signs of recovery.

Asia Siyaka Commodities said Sri Lanka's April tea crop rose 21% YoY to 26.3 Mnkg, the highest April output since 2021. January–April production rose 10% YoY to 88.3 Mnkg.
Asia Siyaka Commodities (ASIY.N0000) said Q1 tea export dollar earnings rose 5% YoY to $370.9m, an 11-year high. Export volume was 63.2m kg (FOB $5.87/kg) and a stronger rupee reduced rupee earnings to Rs.109.9bn.
